Katey Sagal
An extremely gifted, versatile performer
adept at both comedy and drama, actress/singer Katey Sagal became a household
name in the late 1980s as the fabulously brazen unassuming Peg Bundy in the
long-running Fox series Married... with Children (1987). During its lengthy run
she received three Golden Globe and two American Comedy Award nominations. Peg
Bundy was as well-known and popular as Katey as she continued to star in
sitcoms on television. Katey also played roles that were completely opposite of
the one that initially caught her national attention. She was Gemma Teller
Morrow in Sons of Anarchy (2008) as the matriarch of the Hell's Angels-esque
California biker clan. In 2011, her performance won her the Golden Globe Award
for Best Performance of an actress in a Television Series Drama. Catherine
Louise Sagal was a child of Sara Zwilling, a director and singer, and Boris
Sagal - renowned television and film directors. Sagal, a Los Angeles native
began performing at the age of 5 and then studied voice and acting at the
California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. She started her
singing career as a waitress during her "salad times" and continued
to perform with "The Group with No Name." After that she was
fortunate enough to to hook up with Gene Simmons (and his 1970s rock band
KISS), and got an offer to work. She gained invaluable experience working as a
back-up singer to Simmons, Etta Jones, Tanya Tucker, and Olivia Newton-John.
She also was a dynamic performer live alongside diva Bette Midler in one of her
"Harlettes" in Bette's wildly avant-garde stage shows during the late
1970s and early 1980s.
