Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a French actress from France. She studied at the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris. Her roles include Loup (2009) and Sleepless Night (2011). She portrays the role Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. (2017). Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was the daughter of two parents: a Korean mother and a French-Russian father. Her father was a consul in Quebec City, Canada. Her grandfather was a painter Eugene Klementieff. Pom was her name because it sounds similar to the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger" in Korean. Klementieff lived in Canada for one year. Her family had traveled extensively as a result of her father's work. After moving to France she lived in Japan. Klementieff lost her father to cancer around the age of five. Her mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt and paternal uncle. Her uncle, who she described as "like her father", died at 18 years old. Her older brother who took his own life seven years later, was also her aunt. After the death of her uncle Klementieff was a law student for a brief time to please her aunt. But she didn't feel that the field was attractive to her. She also worked as a waitress in France and a saleswoman. She started acting at age 19 in the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. After finishing her studies, she was awarded a competition in theater that offered her two years of tuition for free along with the most renowned instructors at the school. Klementieff was the first person to perform professionally in the independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the step-daughter of the main character Catherine Deneuve. The filming process took three days. During one scene, Klementieff was to be pushed down a set of stairs but fell down the stairs herself as did director Gael Morel kept that shot for the final film. Her first role as a lead actor was in Loup (2009) the French film that follows a tribe of reindeer herders located in the Siberian mountains. Klementieff was filming at a camp hours away from the nearest village. It was there that temperatures dropped to minus.
