Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1936 from 1936 to August 17, 2015) was an American dancer, dancer, and choreographer. Her most famous work is for her appearances in Batman's television series from the 1960s Batman and Marta who played an Orion slave girl wearing green skin in Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes that were adapted for television." Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. In 1951 , her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. There , she was a student at W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas and Sunset High School. However she was not able to complete her studies as she did not have "one credits for PE". Craig was found by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and became its youngest corps de ballet member. When she was playing Batgirl in the film, her training proved very beneficial. In 1957, she left the ballet troupe due to disagreements regarding casting changes. Then, she moved to Los Angeles with the hope of making it a career for her. However, she did find herself in film roles. One of her first television roles was in an episode from the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover", 1958) along with Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). She was in three films following the show, The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959). Craig also appeared on the TV series Mr. Lucky, as Beverly Mills, in the episode "Little Miss Wow" which was also a 1959. Craig was a part of Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) and in Seven Women from Hell (1961) which was co-starred with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she guest-starred on the Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig played the role of Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin Cousins (1964). She also played an Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
