ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her and her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was multisport in her early years, but began playing soccer when she was 14. Then she became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to work on her soccer skills while at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Additionally, she played for regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her debut season. She assisted in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament all four years and twice to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalists for Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Upon graduating a semester early in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan managed to have soccer careers at the national and college levels throughout her education. Morgan was injured in her ACL in her first season as a Berkeley player. She was unable to train for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April 2008. The following season, Morgan scored her first goal for the international team during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she scored four goals and earning her team an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was then taken on by the national team's senior squad, for which she substituted and scored several important goals. One of these goals was a victory over Italy that earned the U.S. team the final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead it to victory against France. Morgan was the youngest player on the team, and helped the team win against Japan.
